Every switch, every router, every server generates metrics. Numbers. Graphs. Alerts. Events. But how much of this data is actually read? How much is interpreted? And, above all, how much is transformed into concrete actions? The truth is that without an effective reporting systemCompanies are literally inundated with data... useless. Or rather, potentially valuable, but unreadable, messy, fragmented. And in this chaos, the network can slowly deteriorate, without anyone noticing. Until something breaks. And then they run, look for the culprit, open the dashboards... too late. This is why today, even more than the infrastructure itself, it's the ability to analyze and represent network performance This draws a line between proactive and reactive management. And the point isn't just to "collect data," but rather to make it readable. Useful. Actionable. But what does it really mean to monitor network performance effectively? First, it means determining what matters. Throughput, jitter, packet loss, latency, bandwidth usage, transmission errors, interface uptime, DNS response times, gateway congestion, traffic thresholds by application, device, VLAN... there are countless metrics. Some need to guarantee precise SLAs to customers, others need to prevent an internal peak from slowing down production processes. Once the system is installed, the real work begins here: configure thresholds, rules, alertsEstablishing these limits is essential to avoid two opposing errors: unnecessary alarmism and underestimating the signals.
